Stagecast is thrilled to announce its successful debut collaboration with the BBC, producing a suite of performance films for the BBC Ten Pieces series. The aim of Ten Pieces is to open up the world of classical music to 7-14 year-olds across the UK and inspire them to develop their own creative responses to the music. 2024 marks the tenth anniversary of the first Ten Pieces project.
This year’s films feature works by ten women composers, ranging from plainsong by Hildegard von Bingen, performed by the BBC Singers, through to contemporary works by Errollyn Wallen and Sally Beamish, the latter featuring the BBC Concert Orchestra and stellar Shetlandic folk musicians Chris Stout & Catriona McKay (above). The story of each piece is also told through compelling introductory videos, made by Urbancroft Films, which beautifully incorporate our concert footage.
This exciting project highlights Stagecast’s exceptional ability to bring performances to life on screen. The wonderful range of compositions, combined with the brilliant BBC musicians and the project’s aim to inspire children about the power of music to tell stories, provided a special opportunity for us to demonstrate our passion: sharing great music and performances with new and bigger audiences in the most compelling ways.
